Music and Health

on Sat, 10/18/2014 - 20:33

I realize I’ve been AWOL these past few weeks: side effect of a full-time contract position and part-time university studies.  However, there’s been some recent activity online that’s contributed to me finding the time to post again. Namely, some colleagues back home in Newfoundland released a touching music video to raise awareness about mental health.  I wanted to make sure that it gets shared as far and as wide as possible.

And while we are delving the depths of music and health, thought I’d also gave a head’s up about another awareness/fundraising project. This one is in benefit of establishing a music thearpy program in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Mt. Sinai Hospital, Toronto. The connection I have there is through a pair of fellow singers, who’s daughter Audrey came into the world 8 weeks early. Since that experience,  just over 7 years ago next month,  Cheryl Campbell has been involved in fundraising and awareness work for premature infants and their families. Her latest project is a recording of lullabies which will be released within the next 6 -8 weeks (for those taking notes, this will be in time for the holiday season). Cheryl has shared much of her poignant story online, you can read more about her and Audrey’s experiences in the NICU and beyond at  musicforpreemies.ca/audrey/ .  For more information on the recording project, visit www.musicforpreemies.ca/music/
