Bicycle Opera - Cast Announcement

on Tue, 05/14/2013 - 10:11

Very excited to officially announce my involvement in the Bicycle Opera project. Performances in July 2013. The 2013 scenes are focused around women’s stories, presenting fantastic, timely, challenging, beautiful, Canadian works.  http://bicycleopera.ca

And then there's ..."You Look like an Opera Singer"

on Tue, 05/14/2013 - 10:05

A follow-up to my previous post: and then there are some singers who "just look" like opera singers. An  interesting look at the other side of the coin from American soprano Rhoslyn Jones.

"You don't look like an opera singer..."

This just came out today. Loved the quote at the end by COC Ensemble Studio Member Rihab Chaieb. Now where have I heard that before?

Upcoming Performances May 2013

on Tue, 04/23/2013 - 14:32

The last few weeks have been very full with preparations for several upcoming events, two of which I'll mention in today's post: University Settlement Music & Arts School's Spring Faculty Concert and a one-night only performance of The Ballad of Baby Doe, produced by Opera by Request.

The Annual Spring Faculty Favourites fundraising concert takes place at St. George the Martyr Church in Grange Park on Friday May 10th at 7:30 pm. Admission is pay-what-you-can and proceeds go towards the programs and services offered by University Settlement.  I'll be performing in collaboration with several

Extra Extra read all about it

on Thu, 02/14/2013 - 18:42

My Extra Extra is that I have recently just decided to make a somewhat radical shift regarding why I make music: I'm going to try making music for myself. As Billy Joel said in his 1993 commencement speech at Berklee College "make music ... for yourself, your highest self, for your own pride, joy, ego, gratification, expression, love, fulfillment, happiness—whatever you want to call it. Do it because it's what you have to do. ""

I think its about time I did what I have to do.

Bari-toned!

on Tue, 12/18/2012 - 12:43

I wish we could come up with such witty stuff for Mezzo-sopranos. What between bari-hunks and bari-toned, a girl can feel a little left out. Speaking of feelings, feel free to post witty mezzo-portmanteau suggestions below.

ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE INVITES YOU TO READ...

CLAUDE DEBUSSY BETWEEN THE LINES

Of course, everyone is familiar with La mer, Clair de Lune and Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune. And through these key woks, we feel we know Debussy. But what about his complex relationship with his times and his contemporaries? What was his vision of the art of music? How did his relationships with women influence his creativity?

Claude Debussy entre les lignes

"Venez rencontrer Claude Debussy et son alter ego, Monsieur Croche, avec la crème des musiciens torontois et un invité surprise..."

"Come meet Debussy and his alter ego, Mr. Quarternote, with performances from the cream of the crop of Toronto musicians and a special guest..."

I am very excited about this project; its coming along quite nicely!   This is a original, biographical show, that uses a combination of theatre and music to explore Debussy's musical and personal life.  I will get to wear my theatre hat as well as my singer hat for this production.
